Marine Discovery Centre

Marine Discovery Centre

On Thursday the 24th of November 2016 the 5/6 classes went to the Marine Discovery Centre! We first went to board the buses, There were two. One small one and a normal sized one, since our class is the smallest we got to go on the small coach! We listened to music, sang songs and of course, Talked

We stopped at the Star of The Sea School because the Marine Discovery Centre was connected to the primary school. When we got there a lady named Jacinta introduced us and let us in. We were seated and then watched a video that was on the screen. It was about a guy who had found the the egg shell of a Port Jackson Shark but wanted to find out what is was (cause he didn’t know what egg it was) but then a sea-gull came in (a puppet) and said go to the Marine Discovery Centre to find out! So he went and found out what it was!

After they told us we were just going to go out and walk to the beach close by. The beach we went to was Henley Beach and we went beach combing, which is basically when you find different shells and stuff from the sea. We found cuttles, cockle shells, razor shells (which are very sharp) and lots of sea weed. It was extremely fun and I enjoyed every part of it! We were out there for about an hour and the last ten minutes or so we made sand castles! Yasssssssssss!

After we had lunch and then we went back inside the centre to do the 6 activities. We learnt how to see whether the fish you catch is legal or not. We learnt about, and saw the Port Jackson Shark. We learnt about the Kaurna stories and how they tell them. And other activities that I forgot…

Overall, I really enjoyed the day even though it was tiring and that we had to leave. I really loved the people there ’cause they were ever so nice and helpful so thank you so much if you are reading this and I really appreciate the work you put into the day!

Mercy

Mercy

This Term our focus is Mercy. Mercy means to help or to give or even to share things with others.

Some examples are like, Giving to those in need of help or Helping a younger one when they are sad or need someone to look up to.

I think the school chose Mercy as the focus maybe because it’s the  International Year of Mercy. It finishes on the 20th of November 2016.

Here is the Prayer for Pope Francis taken from the Dynamic Catholic website

    • Lord Jesus Christ,
    • You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
    • and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
    • Show us your face and we will be saved.
    • Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
    • the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
    • made Peter weep after his betrayal,
    • and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
    • Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
    • “If you knew the gift of God!”
    • You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
    • of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
    • let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.
    • You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
    • in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:
    • let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
    • Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,
    • so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
    • and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
    • proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
    • We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy,
    • you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
  • Amen

I like the idea of the survey as well! My blog is- jessica56ma.edublogs.org
and my teacher’s is- mrpastrosclass.edublogs.org hope to see a reply soon from you. Keep up the good work! bye

The Box

The Box!

This is a story that we did as a practice story for naplan, so you may see more stories called the box.

In Switzerland in a nice, neat home there was a girl called Evie. She lived with her mum, dad and brother and her cat Bartholomew. she was a Yr 6 and her brother Adam was a Yr 9. She loved the way her life was and grew to be very happy. One day all of a sudden her brother was acting really strange, like he was more quiet than usual and he was more lonely at school.

One day when Evie came home from school she walked past Adam’s room to see if he was ok, but when she did she saw him under his bed locking something up, then he stormed out of his room and mum drove him off. Evie was shocked and did not know what to think. When she went into her bedroom there was a note, it said ‘ Dear Evie, Today you have seen the last of me, I love you very much but I can’t stay, go look in the the trays I’ve used in the school….. It will help you.

Evie was breathing heavily but she went back to the school to do what he said. When she looked in the first tray, she found a box with 3 padlocks on it. Then she realised she had to find 3 keys  to open it. She looked in the the teacher’s tray and there they were, the 3 keys.

When she got home she opened the box and in the box there was a book and in the book there was a note that said ‘Thank you for finding it, all my secrets are in this book’ Evie did not know what to feel, she flipped to page 67 and there it said ‘ Evie, I’m not your brother, I’m not in Yr 9 and I’m not related to you.

Sorry 🙁

Reading Post

Harry Potter!

Hello, I’m Jessica. I started reading Harry Potter around the start of Term 2, and after the first one, I fell in love with the series and I would read them whenever I could like in the library, in class or even at home for fun! So this post is about why you should read Harry Potter. Also there are SPOILERS!

So Harry Potter is basically about a boy whose and parents are wizards, so therefore since he is their child he is also a wizard. But it was dark times when Harry was a baby and there was a Dark Lord, recruiting anyone he could, to the dark side. His name was VolVol-, I’m sorry, usually we don’t speak of his name and when I do, people shudder at the sound of me saying it, but, here I go. Voldemort! There I said it but usually people say He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, But I must be brave for my readers! Anyway, so Harry‘s mum was muggle ( non magic folk ) born and so she had a sister who was a muggle as well, and her sister thought she was a freak. So, back to the point, one night VolVoldemort went to Godrics Hollow ( Where the Potters lived ) and threatened Lily and James ( Harry‘s mum and dad ) to kill them and Harry if they didn’t come to the dark side. But they said no, so he started saying curses at them and Harry‘s parents put up quite a fight though. Fist Harry‘s dad, James, died while Lily was protecting Harry but Lily died as well. But when Vol-Vol-Voldemort went up to Harry and tried to kill him, his mother’s love was so strong the curse rebounded on He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and Harry Potter, became the boy who lived.

So I think you should at least try to read Harry Potter and live with the magic, ’cause reading the book is like watching a movie, or being in your own world where magic can fix every thing! I’ve already finished the Harry Potter series but I’m now reading Quittidtch through the ages, and have read, The Tales Of Beedle The Bard. I would like to thank J.K Rowling for writing the books and Thank you for reading!
